AP article helps explain the reason smoking bans do not significantly reduce smoking

Financial stress doesn't push people away from smoking. A study shows people are more likely to smoke than quit during an economic downturn.

A survey from the American Legacy Foundation found that 77 percent of current smokers are stressed by the national economy. This stress is causing some people to delay their attempt to quit smoking, and some are smoking more cigarettes than before.

That excerpt can be found in this article.

Further to note, smoking bans themselves are the cause for financial stress. In Minnesota for instance, smoking bans closed 280+ bars and restaurants eliminating 10,000+ jobs. Across the nation nearly 100,000 jobs and 2,000 bars & restaurants have been eliminated since smoking bans were enacted.

Make no mistake, the smoking bans enacted between 2001-2007 have led our nation and the world into its current economic downturn. An economic stress which leads to increased smoking rates according to the aforementioned AP story and the anti-tobacco American Legacy Foundation.

Pro-smoking ban health minister sentenced to 3 yrs in corruption scandal, but it's no different than RWJFs payoff to smoking ban lobbyists everywhere

Story found here;
http://www.forces.org/News_Portal/news_viewer.php?id=1030

So what was Girolamo Sirchia's crime?

"The former Berlusconi health minister has been judged guilty of corruption and embezzlement...according to the magistrates, Sirchia has cashed payolas by multinationals to favour their supplies (over the competition)."

The fact is that Sirchia's crime is no different than health departments, non-profits, politicians and smoking ban lobbyists around the globe who accepted $446+ million from Nicoderm, Nicoderm CQ, Nicotrol, Nicorette manufacturer Johnson & Johnson's foundation the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).....
cashing payolas (grants) by multinationals to favour their supplies (over the competition).

What is the special interest motive of smoking bans?

Nearly $1 billion in domestic annual sales of pharmaceutical nicotine products.

CTA anxiously awaits the corruption prosecution of pro-smoking ban lobbyists and payola recipients in the USA.......especially since the effect of the smoking bans has been massive nationwide elimination of small businesses and jobs across the landscape.

Over 270+ bars and restaurants closed in the Twin Cities area alone, eliminating approximately 10,000 jobs.

Elsewhere, more than 1,000 establishments and approximately 100,000 jobs have been documented as being eliminated by Nicoderm financed smoking ban activists
to favour their supplies (over the competition).

Liberal, clueless Minneapolis council members who overwhelmingly supported economy damaging smoking ban ordinances approve of $5.3 million roof

The fiscally inept council members are expected to approve a $5.3 million dollar "green" roof for the Target Center.

The project would be the city's most expensive since it bought the Target Center and will take 20 years to actually become cost effective, the Star Tribune says.

More here at Citypages.

Other examples of Mayor Rybak and crew's shrewd investment decisions:

10) $50,000 drinking fountains......$500,000.00 well spent, if you're a down and out, over-priced fountain artisan.

A smoking ban ordinance, which so far has closed 270+ bars and restaurants putting 10,000 workers in the unemployment line, and contributing greatly to our current economic shortfall. (WI, which doesn't have a statewide smoking ban, has 4.7% unemployment rate, MN with ban has 6% unemployment)

It's no wonder then that Minneapolis has announced a hiring freeze, afterall there are many more roofs to "green" and "European" fountains to install....

Can't wait to see what this clueless crew wastes our tax dollars on next.

Minneapolis, St. Paul hiring freeze? Tough economic times? Liberal anti-business MPLS & SP council members reap what they have sown

Regarding local KSTP's news story 12/1, about Minneapolis & St. Paul's hiring freeze and budget deficits, I'd thoroughly enjoy reminding you how it all started.

Liberal, weak-spined, feel-good, nannyist, lawmakers capitulated to Nicoderm (RWJF) funded smoking ban activists (link) such as ALAMN, CTFK, etc. and enacted rent seeking smoking ban laws in 2005 which not only eliminated customers but also more than 200 local hospitality establishments , along with approximately 10,000 local jobs .

Mind you, these businesses and jobs were eliminated due to onerous and unnecessary local government action long before our current economic meltdown. And as a matter of fact it is not a stretch to point out that these rent seeking ordinances (smoking bans) were a significant factor in bringing about this recessionary period we are now experiencing.

We can clearly and squarely blame Minnesota's current economic woes on local misguided lawmakers and their actions.

How did smoking bans contribute to the home foreclosure crisis?

Update: This is just unheard of! A Minnesota lawmaker who demands that lawmakers live (legislate) within their means .

What's next? Intelligience? Common Sense? Fiscal responsibility? Let's not get too hopeful....the MN House and Senate are still dominated by Democrats.
