Upset by SCOTUS' Obamacare ruling today? Learn about RWJF's role in influencing government healthcare initiatives

CTA believes that the SCOTUS ruling was a shrewd tactical move by Justice Roberts to ensure a landslide November election victory against a VERY UNPOPULAR law and the president who pushed for its passage.

Congressional Budget Office report: "Reducing Smoking Would Raise Medicare, Social Security Spending"

Increasing the federal excise tax on cigarettes by 50 cents per pack eventually would increase Medicare and Social Security spending, because smokers would be healthier and live longer, according to a Congressional Budget Office report released Wednesday, the Fiscal Times reports (Pianin, Fiscal Times, 6/14).

The report found that the tax increase would create short-term deficit reductions. However, by 2085, the costs associated with individuals living longer and consuming more Medicare and Social Security services would outweigh the health benefits and tax revenues, causing the deficit to increase...

CTA would argue that smoking bans have had the same effect, due to smokers quitting their habit and living longer, with one additional negative effect ....smoking bans eliminated 165,000+ jobs.

Current U.S. Dept of Labor statistics show the official unemployment rate is 8.2%, yet in the hospitality industry the unemployment rate is 9.7%

Clearly then, the hospitality industry is suffering from higher unemployment rate than the U.S. unemployment rate average.

That doesn't seem possible though does it? I mean the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) funded at least one lobbyist (TobaccoScamUSCSF) to 'educate' hospitality owners that smoking bans are a boon for business.

http://web.archive.org/web/20030414125622/http://www.tobaccoscam.ucsf.edu/pdf/constantly_ad.pdf

Btw, Pierre's Restaurant in Morristown, NJ, which is featured in the pdf above promoting smoking bans as 'good for business' went out of business in 2009 according to comments on this website.

Who funded TobaccoScamUSCSF.edu? .....the Nicoderm, Nicorette, Nicotrol benefactor RWJF of course.......gee we wonder why they would do such a thing?

http://cleanairquality.blogspot.com/2007/02/smoking-bans-good-public-policy-or.html

In fact RWJF president Dr. Risa LaVizzo Mourey writes here that they (smoking bans) have been good for business.
And she continues: In the case of clean indoor air, good public health leads to good business. The Zagat survey finds that New York restaurant-goers are eating out and spending more than they were two years ago and that restaurant openings have far exceeded closings.
New York's experience mirrors that of many states and municipalities around the country that have instituted smoke-free workplace laws. .....numerous independent, objective and peer-reviewed studies of smoke-free restaurant laws show there is no long-term negative impact on restaurant sales or employment from smoke-free laws.

The lobbying activity by RWJF above is/ was blatantly false and misleading information plain and simple as we now know:

http://cleanairquality.blogspot.com/2009/03/worldwide-economic-meltdown-and.html

And should allow the tens perhaps hundreds of thousands of hospitality owners, employees, suppliers etc. to hold RWJF and its surrogates responsible for promoting lies that led to financial ruin.

Smoking ban promoter, & chief funding source, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) today is in stark contrast with it's founder, Robert Wood Johnson Sr.'s ideals

http://www.rwjf.org/about/founder.jsp

excerpts:
General Johnson was an ardent egalitarian, an industrialist fiercely committed to free enterprise

Despite the intensity and determination he displayed in his role as a business leader,

General Johnson had a warmth and compassion for those less privileged than he. He was always keenly aware of the need to help others, and during his lifetime, he helped many quietly and without fanfare.

Robert Wood Johnson Sr. didn't cause the elimination of thousands of businesses & hundreds of thousands of jobs (anti-free market policies such as promoting smoking bans on PRIVATE businesses) unlike the foundation that now bears his name ....Imagine the compassion he would have had for those he put out of business and out on the streets as RWJF does so regularly and cavalierly today.

165,000+ job losses have occurred in the hospitality industry since smoking bans were enacted. At least 5,500 hospitality closings are chronicled in these five links: (at an average of 30 employees per hospitality establishment there's a minimum of 165,000 job losses since smoking bans were enacted)

RWJF and organizations funded by RWJF will one day have to answer to Robert Wood Johnson Sr's. ideals....we can't wait to see how they 'lobby' their way out of that.

The information above prompted one colleague to say:

I think many industrialist would cut off their heirs if they saw what they are doing with the trust and foundations they left them.  The heirs are anti business and anti-free market, the very things that allowed them to sit on their lazy butts and hand out the founders hard earned cash for useless causes. .....
