Lawmakers charged with fraud for supporting / proposing special interest law

I find very little difference between this story and one in which pharmaceutical nicotine company lobbyists fund local legislatures to eliminate tobacco nicotine use (smoking bans), in order to increase alternative nicotine product sales such as Nicoderm.

If the first example is illegal, then so is the latter.
