It's clear to me now why the tobacco industry doesn't do more to fight smoking bansMuch to the chagrin of the pharmaceutical nicotine industry which funds smoking ban efforts and the non-profits they fund to accomplish that end. Smoking bans don't decrease cigarette sales and /or use.......they have actually been shown to increase the sales and use of tobacco products, as this story out of Scotland indicates.
.....Other countries also saw a rise in the number of young people smoking because the habit came to be seen more as an act of rebellion. ....... if people are smoking more at home since the ban, children who live with smokers may be suffering instead......
So it seems that smoking ban activists are actually causing more harm than good.....but until the money which supports them from the pharmaceutical industry dries up.....the increase in smoking rates is unlikely to end anytime soon.
And the tobacco industry has an unlikely and unwitting ally.........the smoking ban activists.
